A note from Rachel
"Making jewellery feels a lot like telling a story, but the true meaning comes from the person who wears it. That connection is what truly inspires me. I began making jewellery in my twenties after a life-changing trip to Sri Lanka. While I was in Colombo, working with a local television station on a documentary about Poya, a Buddhist celebration, things took an unexpected turn when I ended up in the hospital alone. With only my thoughts for company, I spent time reflecting on my life—what I’d experienced and what the future held. In that quiet moment, I realized that happiness would come from creativity. And it had to be jewellery.
I had been mesmerized by the vibrant gemstones sold along the streets, and I was deeply moved by the unity and celebration of the Poya festivities. Jewellery, I realized, has the power to tell stories of love, courage, and faith. I wanted to create pieces that would honor those intangible, yet deeply important, aspects of life.
When I returned to London, my path to becoming a jeweller began in earnest. I trained as a goldsmith and designer at Kensington and Chelsea College, continued my studies at Central St. Martins, and launched my brand with guidance from The Goldsmiths Centre.
My work has always been influenced by counterculture, symbolism, and the spiritual connections embedded in art. Growing up in Newbury during the 1980s the Greenham Common Peace Protests left a lasting impact on me—seeing women camping out for peace and opposing nuclear weapons, sparked my interest in anti-establishment movements and our shared desire for change.
My journey, both personal and creative, has shaped how I see the world and how I live. Through my work, I celebrate the shared human experience that connects us all."
